The other day I found myself flicking through an old car magazine which featured the V8-powered MG ZT. Remember that? Converted to rear-wheel drive and with a 4.6-litre Ford lump under the bonnet? I drove one back then, too, and it was a riot. "By the way," the piece concluded, "MG is back." And it was. The trouble was, the only tiling MG Rover needed less than a super-niche, rear-driven V8 saloon was the carbonfibre-bodied supercar that also appeared. For those and a number of other reasons, MG wasn't back for long.
