Recently I got into a bit of hot water online over at autocar.co.uk by suggesting that a BMW Mini, although interesting to look at and drive, was not a spiritual successor to the rather more Mini-sized original. In terms of costs and practicality, I said I could definitely see a few flaws, but each to their own. It isn't as simple as that, of course, and I should have offered some alternatives. The other obvious choice is the Alfa Romeo Mito, which matches the Mini for marginal rear passenger room. It isn't as nice to drive, and although the early residual signs have been good, it is unlikely to last.
