According to the Jag's sat-nav, it is exactly 364 miles and takes six and a half hours to drive from Hove to Anglesey, right up on the northernmost tip of Wales. But I did it a couple of weeks ago in the XKR-S, and more to the point I did it there and back in one day. Oh yes, and while I was there I drove Bentley's beautiful-looking Speed 8 racer - the very car that won the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2003. So it was a long but extremely satisfying day. Except for one rather irritating event. When I got within about 30 miles of the Anglesey circuit, I pulled in to a service station and filled the Jag with a tank of 95 unleaded. Nothing strange about that, you might think; I always fill it with 95 due to the price - and availability - of super unleaded. About 20 minutes into my journey back home, however - so roughly 40 miles after filling it - I realised that all was not quite right with the XK's supercharged V8.
