Another winter, another cold snap and yet another opportunity to kick yourself for not joining the 4×4 community sooner. So if you're bothered by bad weather, which off-roaders aren't a premium-price rip-off? So we're not looking at Land Rovers, BMW Xs or Audi Qs. The Ford Kuga is a nice little bus but still pricey, which is why you should look at the decidedly blue-collar Ford Ranger. You won't need to worry about it picking up the odd dent or scratch because that will only make it look better. A Ranger Double Cab from 2004 with 120,000 miles on the clock is £2500 to £3000, although it could be plus VAT, so please do check before you buy. It could also have been run into the ground on building sites across the land, so be careful. And it isn't remotely cool.
