Merc gullwing goes electric: Electric AMG supercar under development; four-wheel drive, and on sale by 2015

THE MERCEDES AMG SLS is still two months away from launch, but it is already being re-engineered to become an all-electric supercar and could be on sale by 2015. The zero-emission SLS eDrive is part of AMG's plan to present a more socially acceptable face of performance cars. It draws heavily on the petrol-engined SLS, which will be launched at the Frankfurt show in September. "We didn't want to do another concept car without any real relevance to what we're doing today," said AMG boss Volker Mornhinweg. "Instead, we decided to bring the future to us by applying advanced technology we'd already been looking at to a car we're just about to launch."
