Jaguar's new XF 3.0D S gives the firm its first truly sporty diesel. But is it as fast as BMW's muscular 535d? And is it as good overall? This much we know already: when it first arrived. Jaguar's XF 2.7D was good enough to nudge aside the best from Mercedes and BMW to take class honours, and the recently launched 3.0D S version looks to be even better. What remains unclear is whether the hot diesel XF really is as quick as Jaguar claims (under six seconds from 0- 60mph). And if so, can it unseat the BMW535d as the oil-burning hot rod champ? We first drove the new Jaguar in France, but now, back on home soil, it's time to load up the telemetry kit and head to the test track.
