WHEN IT COMES to new markets, Volvo could never be accused of going in headfirst. Like the XC90 before it, the XC60 arrives after a lengthy gestation period. Although it shares "some floor parts" with the Land Rover Freelander, the XC60 is significantly different. Under the skin, everything from the front bulkhead to the upper structure to the seating position is unique to the Swedish car. Under new chief designer Steve Martin, the last vestiges of Volvo's still-boxy lines have been completely wiped away.
