RENAULT HAS ADDED a new model to the line-up of its facelifted MPV: the rafty-tufty XMOD. Like the Peugeot 2008, it relies not on all-wheel drive but a tweaked traction control system and mud and snow tyres. Plainly, the XMOD is not meant as a Dakar Rally competitor. What Renault hopes to sell is peace of mind - an MPV that will not seize up at the sight of snow or flounder on a muddy field should the heavens open. To this end, a Grip Xtend dial is mounted on the Scenic's centre console.
