Can a hatchback ever cut it as a premium car? BMW thinks so, and now Audi is out to catch the eye of wealthy buyers with the elegant A7 Sportback. There's a statistic that I still remember being told on, I think, the press launch of the second-generation Audi A4 Avant. Must have been at the start of the last decade. "We've done a bit of research," said one of Audi's marketing bods. (You'll forgive me if I paraphrase slightly, I hope.) "Sixty per cent of first-generation A4 Avant buyers said their primary reason for choosing one was its design."
