Ford Mondeo MK1: The car that changed family travel for ever is now a real bargain

This was the USD6 billion car, but it can now be yours -running and complete with MoT - for just ￡220. Six billion dollars? That's what Ford paid to design, develop and build CDW27, its 1993 world car called Mondeo (a bastardisation of the French 'monde', meaning world - geddit?) to replace the Sierra over here and the dismal Tempo in North America. The car would rocket Ford close to the top of the pile when it came to driving quality and a whole lot of other things. But these early Mondeos are banger fodder now, as sadly demonstrated by the ￡220 1994 2.0 Si hatchback that I unearthed with 90,000 miles and two months' MoT. Which could mean it's two months away from the crusher.
