BMW 530d GT: Munich thinks it has created another niche with a '5-series hatchback'

THERE ARE PEOPLE who will take an instant dislike to the 5-series Gran Turismo because, on a whole range of levels, it seems like BMW is trying hard to contrive a new market segment for no apparent reason. BMW insists there is a lost generation of potential buyers stuck in the middle of the triangle of X6, 5-series and 7-series. The 5-series GT was built to mop them up and, BMW claims, to create an entirely new market segment.
