Make a nectar bar for wildlife

A border brimming with fragrant blooms and nectar-rich plants is a wonderful sight, but it's even better when the flowers are being supped by invertebrates. In fact, I tend to think of butterflies, moths, bees and the like as flying flowers, whirlingaround our gardens, making them more vibrant and interesting. Though the larval stages of most of our native invertebrates require specific food sources, the adults are far less fussy about where their meals come from. And this is what makes garden plants so important - they provide nectar and pollen over long periods. This is especially obvious in winter, when there is a paucity of native flowering plants but a great many ornamentals to choose from.
