Russia's Zarubezhneft has agreed to study two more fields in Iran as Russian firms intensify efforts to farm into the Middle East country's oil and gas sector. Zarubezhneft and National Iranian South Oil Co. (Nisoc) on Jul. 17 signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that calls for studying two fields in the southwestern province of Khuzestan - Shadegan and Rag Sefid - the Iranian news agency Irna reported. The Russian firm declined to comment, but sources earlier told Nefte Compass that Zarubezhneft was looking at other options in Iran, where it recently submitted a plan for the West Paydar and Aban onshore oil fields on the border with Iraq (NC Jul.13'17).
