Oral pharmacotherapy in erectile dysfunction

The increased understanding of the neuropharmacology of penile erection combined with patients' dissatisfaction with the current therapy for erectile dysfunction have boosted research towards oral therapy for impotence. Centrally acting drugs and type V phosphodiesterase inhibitors are the main oral drugs currently under investigation. Data are preliminary, but it appears that we are on the threshold of a new era in the management of erectile dysfunction.
