摘要

A study was conducted to know the consultancy pattern of sericulturists in obtaining information on different sericultural technologies at farmers' level, determine the rate of adoption of these technologies, identify the reasons for non-adoption, and to assess the impact of adoption of technologies on overall productivity. Data were gathered by administering a pre-tested interview schedule to 180 sericulturists in Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, India, during 2004-05. A wide range of difference was recorded in knowledge and adoption among the different categories of farmers. Further, reasons were identified for non-adoption, including: lack of economic resources, indifference on the part of the rearers, lack of effective extension activities, lack of proper coordination between farmers and extension workers, non-availability of quality layings, lack of water facilities and supply of electricity. It is suggested that extension strategy must start with a diagnostic effort to identify the specific constraints and to educate the sericulturists.
