The present study was undertaken to know the extent of adoption of the improved sericultural technologies by farmers and to identify the personal, psychological and socio-economic characteristics determining the level of adoption. The results showed that the respondents adopted fully or partially many of the mulberry cultivation and silkworm rearing practices except some of the crucial practices viz., application of inorganic fertilizers, biofertilizers, green manures, compost, vermicompost and growth promoters, drip irrigation, leaf/shoot harvest, recommended rearing space and rearing of bivoltine hybrids. High adoption level to the extent of 91.11 % was recorded for application of farmyard manure (FYM), though not to the required level and for maintaining separate house for silkworm rearing. Farmers had low adoption level (13.3 %) in installing drip irrigation system. The family size had a positive and significant association with technology adoption level. The major constraints identified for non-adoption of some of the recent technologies were farmers' priority for technologies which involved less production cost, less labour and suited for irrigation water availability. The availability of recommended organic manures, biofertilizers and seedsof green manures of desirable quality, at right time and proper source also affected then- adoption level As such, for the successful and effective transfer of recommended sericultural practices, the need for farmer participatory extension programmes isemphasized to order to increase the mulberry leaf and cocoon productivity.
