INFLUENCE OF AN NGO ON SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS OF SERICULTURE FARMERS - A CASE STUDY

A study conducted on BAIF, Non-Government Organization located at Tiptur taluk oflumkur District reveals that the social and economic status of the members had changed from moderate to high level. He/ she was approached /sought by other fellow farmersto get more information. Personal status of the member was raised among other farmers as well as family members. Financial assistance extended by the NGO up-graded and modernized sericulture farmers. They built separate rearing houses, purchased rearingequipment, house hold articles and automobiles. Their association with NGO increased their access to extension personnel. NGO intervention had improved the mass media participation of the members moderately. NGO intervention would be more meaningful andappropriate if their induction is made during planning stage itself.
