S_(1635), a promising mulberry genotype for rainfed cultivation in Bangalore Rural district

Leaf yield potential and quality of mulberry leaves are greatly influenced by the genotypes (Susheelamma et al., 1992, Bongale and Chaluvachari, 1993), cultivation practices adopted, soil moisture and nutrient status of the mulberry garden soils. Inview of the depletion of soil moisture availability and irrigation resources in the tropics, the necessity for selection of suitable varieties has attained significance in recent years. Present study was carried out to evaluate the selected improved varieties for their performance under rainfed cultivation.
