The anonymous nature of the Internet provides many opportunities for unscrupulous individuals. Whether these actions involve theft of service, invasion of property, libel, or other crimes, organizations are responsible for the content, reliability, and integrity of the services that they provide. When outside parties are damaged by their lack of action, providers may be held vicariously liable for their action or inaction, even if they have had no previous relationship with the damaged parties. The courts will continue to provide guidelines in future litigation.
