Use of zebrafish in research and importance of health and husbandry. (Special Issue: Zebrafish Health and Husbandry.)

摘要

This second issue of volume number 53 of the Institute of Laboratory Animal Research (ILAR) journal presents a special issue featuring articles and reviews of the major husbandry issues and diseases of importance to zebrafish in the research setting. There are five articles under the "Health" section reviewing diseases that exist and are of concern to the zebrafish model. Reviews on two specific diseases, namely microsporidiosis and mycobacteriosis, are included because they are by far the most common diseases observed in zebrafish facilities. Another section on zebrafish husbandry consists of four reviews focusing on classical husbandry areas such as nutrition, breeding, larval rearing, and housing systems, which continue to draw interest regularly at workshops and discussions on zebrafish husbandry. Two general articles namely: zebrafish housing, husbandry, health, and care: IACUC considerations; and zebrafish resources on the internet are included.
