Pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables - Real situation

People have an inalienable right to clean, healthy and safe food. This applies as much as to processed foods as to fresh vegetables and fruits, cereals, millets, etc.Safety of food - both fresh and processed - may be affected by adulteration which is punishable under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standard Act of India (FSSAI). Moreover, fresh vegetables and fruits and other agricultural produce as well as processed food may have residues of harmful chemicals including pesticides which are also subject to punishment under FSSAI for violation of the standards set under the Act. However, what often tends to be ignored, many agricultural produce may contain harmful and toxic plant parts which can be equally or even more harmful than the pesticides.
