It's not often you see smiles on the faces of an association's executive after it's voted itself out of existence, but former office bearers of the now-defunct Vineyards Association of Tasmania look like they are already enjoying this new year. January 2007 marked the start of a new era for owners and operators of the State's 241 cool climate vineyards. For the first time in its 51-year wine history, Tasmania now has a full-time executive officer at the head of its key industry organisation. And thatcan only be a good thing, says immediate past president of the VAT, Stuart Bryce. The 20-year industry veteran is better known outside Tasmania as the politically savvy national vice-president of the Winemakers' Federation of Australia and president ofits Small Wineries Group affiliate.
