Zinfandel pays dividends for committed exporters

The origin of Zinfandel is a tale of speculation, however, it is widely acknowledged that a variety called Zinfandel was first grown on the east coast of the United States in the early 1800s. Later, it was transported to California, where it is now among the most widely-planted varieties there. Its true identity was not discovered until the 1990s when DNA testing revealed that it was genetically matched to Primitivo. The variety is also commonly used to produce the increasingly popular White Zinfandel wine.
