The many ways with fruitful Gamay

Gamay is an ancient variety that has battled to gain nobility. Originally known as Gamay Noir a Jus Blanc, its origins date back to 280AD in the Lyon region in France and, later on, further north in the Cote d'Or region. In 1395, the Duke of Burgundy,Philippe le Hardi, banished the variety from the vineyards of Cote d'Or as he perceived it lacked the quality of the more noble variety Pinot Noir. Gamay found a home in the southern areas of Burgundy, namely Macon and Beaujolais, where it has thrived on granitic soil and the skill of unpretentious vignerons.
