Australian wine is exported around the world and has to conform to various food standards. The limits to agrochemical residues, commonly referred to as MRLs (maximum residue limits), can differ in overseas countries to those set in Australia. To ensure that our wine meets the most stringent requirements, it is necessary to restrict the application of certain chemicals, or avoid their use altogether. In the following pages, the tables that particularise the recommended use of agrochemicals also detailthe active constituents registered for use in Austialian viticulture for some of the common fungal and insect pests. The 'restrictions on use' have been calailated to minimise the exposure of the public to pesticides and the likelihood of residues affecting fermentation and subsequent effect on wine sales.
