Fusarium nivale(Fr.) Ces. was recorded for the first time on cereals at the Seed Testing Station in Palmerston North in 1964. A survey of certified wheat from the 1966 harvest, using a random selection of samples received at the Station, was carried out. The survey included samples from all wheat-growing areas in New Zealand, and the agar plate method was used for the tests.F. nivalewas isolated from seven samples out of a total of 110 tested, and all of these were from the southern area of the South Island. The level of infection ranged from 0.3-1.0.
