The rice caseworm, Nymphula depunctalis Guenee [= Parapoynx stagnallis (Zeller)] (Pyralidae: Lepidoptera) often considered as a minor pest of rice is attaining major status due to the shift in the cultivation of high yielding cultivars, cultivation practices and climate change. It causes great havoc in many rice growing regions of India viz., Assam (Gogoi and Bora, 2013), Madhya Pradesh (Patel and Khatri, 2001), Bihar, Odisha and West Bengal (http:// www.rkmp.co.in/ /research themes/changing insect pest scenario in the rice ecosystem). This pest occurs in rice fields having standing water; prevalent in irrigated and rain fed lowland conditions. Heavily infested plants will produce few tillers with stunted growth (Pathak and Khan, 1994) and can cause a considerable reduction in rice yields (Heinrichs and Viajante, 1987).
