Effect of Bauhinia purpurea and aspect on yield of fodder oat at different distances from tree

An experiment was conducted on degraded riverbed land during Rabi 1995-96 to 1997-98 under rain fed condition to study the effect of 10 year old Kachnar (Bauhinia purpurea) tree on the fodder yield of oat (Avena sativa). During all the 3 consecutiveyears north side (tree shade) of tree row produced higher (7.9 percent) dry fodder yield, number of tillers and plant height than south side (sun side). The distance from tree also affected fodder yield, number of tillers and height of plant. Tree shadeconserved more soil moisture for prolonged period.
