摘要

Six clinical cases of Heinz body anaemia induced by ingestion of onions and/or garlic are described. A Heinz body anaemia is a form of haemolytic anaemia caused by oxidation of haemoglobin resulting in its denaturation and precipitation as Heinz bodies. Oxidant ingestion should be on the list of differential diagnoses in cases of haemolytic anaemias. Animals present with pale mucous membranes and clinical signs which result from anaemia. Definitive diagnosis relies on the history of onion/garlic ingestion and the presence of large numbers of Heinz bodies.
