Erosion hazard assessment in soils of Patiala-Ki-Rao watershed in sub-montaneous tract of Punjab

Soil erosion is one of the most significant degradation process in the sub-montaneous tract of Punjab. The tract situated along the foothills of Punjab, is composed of rolling and moderately to strongly sloping topography. Most of the rain water (24-45 percent) is lost as surface runoff through seasonal ephemeral streams (Singh et al. 1984). As a result the tract is posing serious problems of soil erosion, flash floods, receding material supplies, dwindling wild life and deteriorating socio-economicstatus of people.
