Studies on Management of Major Insect Pests on Maize with Different Groups of Insecticides

摘要

Maize (Zea mays L) is the third most important cereal crop after wheat and rice in the World. Among the insect pests that attack maize, stem borer, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe) is the most destructive pest causing an average yield loss ranging between 24to 75 per cent. The other economic important pest is the corn leaf aphid, Rhopalosiphum maidis (Fitch) causing considerable yield loss ( Siddiqui and Marwaha, 1993). Keeping this in view, an attempt has been made to study the efficacy of insecticides from different groups against the major insect pests of maize. The experiment was laid in a randomized block design (RED), with DHM-105 variety, replicated thrice with ten treatments including untreated control. The crop was sown on 26-11-2004 with a plotsize of 30m2 (6m x 5m), spacing of 0.6 X 0.3 m between row to row and plant to plant. All the agronomic practices were followed as per the recommendations of Achary a N G Ranga Agricultural University.
