EVALUATION OF PROSOPIS CINERARIA (KHEJRI) GERMPLASM COLLECTED FROM DIVERSE HABITATS OF THE INDIAN THAR DESERT

Prosopis cineraria is a multipurpose tree species of the Indian Thar desert. In the present investigation, an attempt has been made to evaluate the germplasm of P. cineraria collected from eight different ecological habitats of the Indian Thar desertin terms of its survival, growth, biomass gain, leaf and bark yields and Harvest Index. Results reveal that accessions (collections) from CAZRI, Luni and Khejarli showed better performance throughout the trial and can be selected for future plantation programmes.
