A single case of adult vitelliform macular degeneration (AVMD) is presented. This condition was first reported in the literature by Gass in 1974. The degeneration described has been clearly established as a separate entity to Best's vitelliform macular dystrophy, though very similar in appearance. There are many aspects of the two disorders, however, such as terminology, mode of inheritance and aetiology which remain controversial.
