Probability analysis for prediction of annual maximum daily rainfall of Chakapada block of Kandhamal district in Orissa

The determination of annual maximum daily rainfall is of great importance for various hydraulic designs. Hydrologists consider the magnitude of maximum daily rainflal at different return periods for planning and design of hydraulic structures. It is also considered as important hydrological parameters for flood forecasting. Due to variation in temporal rainfall distribution, it is imperative to determine the probability of rainfall occurrence. This helps in developing cropping plan and estimating thedesign flow rate for maximizing crop production (Tomar and Ranade 2001). Therefore, in the present study, probability analysis for prediction of annual maximum daily rainfall for different return periods of Chakapada block of Kandhamal district in Orissa has been worked out for the design of small and medium hydraulic structures.
