Role of balanced fertilizer use in achieving food security

摘要

To encourage fertilizer consumption growth, and balanced and efficient use, a long-term sound policy and mechanism needs to be developed. Strategies and policies should be adopted for assuring regular supplies of nutrients from internal and external sources. Care should be taken to avoid ill effects arising from long-term unbalanced fertilizer use. There is little evidence of any deterioration of soil health or pollution of groundwater under balanced and integrated fertilizer use. Further studies on fertilizer use and soil health in different agro-ecological regions have to be undertaken.
