In spite of high rainfall in Asom, water deficit during rainy season sometimes leads to delay in transplanting of rice due to low rainfall or delay in onset of monsoon. Sometimes transplanted crop is affected due to water deficit in critical growth stages. It is observed that short season drought like situations are common after flash floods. Flood is a chronic feature here caused by rivers Brahmaputra and Barak. Bice-fish system may act as a risk minimizing measure against short season drought usingharvested water. It is also useful during floods as strong dykes may prevent water intrusion.
