Mycoplasma agalactiae and Mycoplasma bovis are closely related species. Initially, M. bovis was classified in the group 5, M.agalactiae var M. bovis. Similar to the diseases caused by M. agalactiae in sheep and goats, M. bovis produces agalactia, pneumonia, arthritis, diseases of genital tract and abortion in cattle (Gummelt et al., 1996). Both the species are identical in cell- and colony- morphology as well as in their metabolic behavior. It is difficult to differentiate them by usual morphological, metabolic and serological methods (Gonzalez et al., 1995; Gummelt et al., 1996). Most of mycoplasmas share some antigens with some heterogeneity in antigenic and protein profiles of different isolates and strains of the same species (Anderson et al., 1987; Goncalves et al., 1998; Solsana et al., 1996). The aim of the present study was to assess the similarity and dissimilarity of protein profiles of M. agalactiae and M .bovis in whole cell antigen (WCA) and sonicated supernatant antigens (SSA) by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE).
