Impact of Public Distribution Systemon poverty and food security in India

摘要

This paper investigates the effect of food subsidy through Public Distribution System (PDS) on poverty and food security in India. The study used fiscal transfer method to assess level of subsidy transfer through PDS and its impact on reduction of poverty and food and nutrition insecurity. Our results show that the effectiveness of PDS has improved over time and it has contributed significantly to tackle the twin problems of poverty and food insecurity in India.
