Revisting programmes for farmers developed in post independence India

After Independence the government established institutions for educating and assisting villagers for carrying out programmes for rural development in general and agricultural development in particular. Each programme has a sound framework. At presentthere are programmes for every section of rural society and all regions in the country. The programmes have significantly raised the agricultural productivity and rural prosperity. However, there is still a great scope to raise agricultural productivity.Vigorous efforts should be made to make farmers knowledgeable about agriculture technology. At the same time there should be effective supply of agricultural inputs, remunerative price for farm produce and marketing facility to encourage farmers to adopt scientific knowhow of agricultural technology. This is crucial for raising agriculture productivity.
