ANIMAL HUSBANDRY plays a significant role in economic viability of marginal and small farmers in Aligarh district

Animal husbandry is an important economic activity next to cropping system in rural India. The study area is dominated by livestock husbandry in which 70% of rural masses are involved directly or indirectly. The present study aims to understand the agricultural land use pattern, level and pattern of livestock husbandry, the income and employment generation through livestock sector as well as to highlight the status of consumption of livestock products. Primary data generated through household surveyof the village reveals that about 3-17% of land of marginal and small farmers is used for fodder cultivation and 30-50% income is generated from this sector of economy.
