Soil, water and nutrient management strategic plan for rainfed lower foothills of Shivaliks

India is predominantly agrarian in nature with about 74.5% of its population living in villages and about 66% depending on agriculture for livelihood. The rainfed area constitute about 65% of the total area contributing 40% of the food production of the country. There has been a spectacular increase in food production in country during last four decades. This is possible mainly due to high soil fertility, good irrigation facilities, good management practices and of course because of the strenuous efforts made by the progressive farmers.
