Winged bean: a multipurpose, under-utilized legume for acidic soils

Winged bean, a lowland tropical species, has the potential to produce green vegetable, green forage, green-manure, high protein oil seed and tuber. The tender pods, green leaves, flowers, seeds and tubers are edible and economically important. The crop can play a vital role towards sustained agricultural production in acidic and neutral soils because of its exceptional qualities. The popularization of this crop would diversify the plant-based protein food basket.
