HD 3043 (Pusa Chaitanya)- A new rust resistant, high yielding wheat variety for timely sown restricted irrigated conditions of North Western Plains

A new bread wheat variety, HD 3043 has been recommended for commercial cultivation under timely sown restricted irrigated conditions of north-western plains zone of India. HD 3043 has yield potential of > 40 q/ha and shows superiority over checks, recently released variety WH 1080 and checks (C 306, PBW 175, PBW 396). It is resistant to brown and yellow rust and also against foliar blight. It has moderate high protein content (> 12%), good appearance and good chapati and bread making qualities and thus would have better industrial acceptance. This variety has promise for restricted irrigated areas and thus will contribute to increasing wheat production in north-western plains of the Gangetic plains and will alleviate the socio-economic status of farmers of north-eastern plains in India.
