'Lime' refers to various acid-neutralizing compounds of calcium or calcium and magnesium, which neutralizes the pond acidity, caused due to various factors. The benefits of liming earthen ponds, used for aquaculture are numerous. It is commonly alliedas a remedial measure to correct the acid-base problems in ponds and prevents wide swings in water pH, improves dissolved oxygen saturation, enhances overall productivity by faster recycling of tagged and added nutrients due to increased microbial activity, maintains desirable sanitation, provides clcium and magnesium which are most important ions in animal physiology and prevents outbreak of diseases.
