Farming systems in the shiwalik foot-hills of Punjab

Farming systems comprising arable crops, livestock, horticultural and forestry plantations along with allied activities have helped the farmers to take advantage of complementary benefits of different components and earn their livelihood in the Kandiarea which is beset with a number of climatic, edaphic and socio-economic constraints leading to frequent crop failures or low productivity of arable crops. This region has great untapped potential for horticulture and certain high value crops and quitesuitable to promote organic farming.
