This paper presents an analytical study of the behavior of a circular plate that rests freely on an elastic Winkler-type subgrade under axisymmetric, statically increasing loading. The plate is made of an elastic-plastic material that obeys the Johansen yield condition, as well as the associated flow rule. Separation of a part of plate from the subgrade is possible. Differential equations that describe plastic zones that can appear during deformation of the plate are derived and solved in closed form. A method that describes the deformation process of the plate in an exact manner is proposed, using a sandwich model.
