摘要

Allamanda cathartica L is an evergreen woody shrub found throughout India. On the basis of its traditional use and literature references, the flowers and stem of Allamanda catharticaL. were selected for the screening of wound healing property. They were extracted by maceration method with different solvents like petroleum ether, solvent ether, chloroform, ethanol and water in increasing order of polarity. All the five extracts were subjected to antimicrobial screening by using disc diffusion method. The pet-ether, ethanol and aqueous extract of flowers and stem showed maximum zone of inhibition. Further based on anti-microbial activity four formulations were made in the form of ointment using petroleum ether flower extract (PEFO), ethanol flower extract (EEFO), petroleum ether stem extract (PESO) and ethanol stem extract (EESO) and screened for wound healing potential with nitrofurazone as reference standard. The effect of ointments on wound healing potency was measured using excision, incision and dead space wound models. Among the extracts, PEFO showed significant (P<0.001) wound healing activity on all three wound models compared to other extract ointments. Excision wound showed complete epithelization in 12 days with minimal scar area. Further, incision wound and dead space wound showed significant (P<0.001) breaking strength, increase in dry weight and hydroxyproline content. Histopathological study of the tissue of PEFO treated group evidenced increase collagenation when compared to control group of animals.
