1. Two biopsies from patients with Jakob-Creutzfeldt disease were examined with the electron microscope.2. The status spongiosus in this condition is due to dilatation of astrocytic and neuronal processes; it has been suggested that focal clearing of astrocytic cytoplasm may reflect imbalance of brain electrolytes.3. Neurons were observed with depleted ribosomes and cisterns of endo-plasmic reticulum, perhaps reflecting derangement of the protein metabolism.4. One abnormal synapse and probably parts, of others have also been found.
