A large number of rice genotypes were screened for resistance to bacterial leaf blight (Xanthomonas campestris pv. oryzae [X. oryzae pv. oryzae]), stem rot (Sclerotium oryzae [Magnaporthe salvinii]) and sheath blight (Rhizoctonia solani). Of 73 promising genotypes, only 3 (IRON 83-105, HAU 118-104 and RP 2151-64-3-1-1) were consistently resistant to bacterial leaf blight during Kharif 1992 and 1993. Twelve entries, BR 51-282-8-HR 45, C 722355, CAMOR, HKR 86-197, IR 29723-143-3-2-1, IR 33238-25-2-3-2, IR 48725-B-B-103-2-3, IR 49455-20-2-2-3-3-1, IRON 89-59, OR 142-99, RP 1057-393-1 and RP 2151-166-4-1, showed resistance to stem rot. Two genotypes, IR 40 and KK2, exhibited resistance to sheath blight both in lab. and field screening tests. The genotypes CAMOR and IR 29723-143-2-1 showed resistance to stem rot and moderate resistance to sheath blight while BR 168-2B-23 and IR 22082-42-2 were moderately resistant to bacterial leaf blight and stem rot diseases.
