We have emerged as the largest milk producing nation with increased per capita availability of milk of 232 grams per day. This has been the result of organized efforts in dairy development by National Dairy Development Board. With over 275 liquid milkplants and 83 milk product factories in the cooperative, public and private sector, dairy sector has done exceedingly well. However, a lot needs to be done with regards to quality and safety — particularly in the fast changing scenario of opening up ofinternational trade. The quest for achieving excellence has to be a continuous process with application of innovative and globally tried strategies for total milk protection.
